| I'm in the process of recovering from a headgasket failure and I'm trying to work through my options. If you don't care for backstory and just want to know my questions, skip to the bottom of this post. The Cometic gaskets I installed ~10 years ago failed, and I'd like to revert to OEM but I've had more than the FSM allows removed from the mating surfaces. Z1 lists the factory headgasket thickness at .045" or 1.1mm. I've seen posts on TT.net from 'reputable' sources indicating the thickness is either 1.4 or 1.5mm. What IS the actual OEM headgasket thickness? I can't justify spending the $$$ on adjustable cam gears now, but I can justify modifying a spare set of gears to the appropriate specs to relocate the '0' point. Assuming I can work out a timing solution to allow me to use factory headgaskets.....they're discontinued. What are people using in their place? Rockauto has a few options that I'm not a huge fan of. In summary:
1) What is the ACTUAL thickness of the OEM headgasket. (1.1mm? 1.4? 1.5?)
2) What are people using now that the OEM gaskets are discontinued?
